unfinished masterpieces

The Jungle Book (Disney, 1967)

These backgrounds show small areas never fully revealed, thus impossible to finish… but even though incomplete, they were too stunning not to share - enjoy!

Are you out there?

Hi gang!

I'm considering a commitment to frequent posting again.

If you're interested - please comment. I love your feedback and much as I love hand drawn cartoons -

so let me know if you're ready to follow a new stream of posts!!!

The Jungle Book (Disney, 1967)

How about one more from JUNGLE BOOK?

The enchanting storytelling gets a lot of help from these incredible backgrounds, as well as the voice talent and animators!

Baloo teaches Mowgli about "the Bear Necessities" -

Here's the fabulous BG! I got to the very end of its reconstruction and had one tiny section I had to digitally hand paint, as it was never revealed in the scene. This always stretches my abilities (I'm not really an artist) but on completion I think I matched it pretty darn well! There's a slight pan to the right so you never saw this complete BG on the screen - until now!

The Jungle Book (Disney, 1967)

A phone call today sent me to THE JUNGLE BOOK DVD to answer a question… and I fell in love with this movie all over again, including the BG art. More to come!

Today, we see this wonderful segment - Baloo crosses the screen, er, jungle, from here:

to here:

Now, for the first time, you can see the entire pan BG revealed. Gorgeous textures!

QUICK DRAW McGRAW (Hanna-Barbera)

Quick Draw McGraw

I fell in love with animation because of Walt Disney… but every kid loved the Hanna-Barbera characters too!

The likes of Yogi, Huckleberry Hound and Quick Draw McGraw kept us very entertained after school.

Today, I spent most of my day off recreating this gigantic pan background from the opening of the Quick Draw show. Around 6 hours later… here's the result.

It's pretty lavish for H-B… hope you like it!

The first frame:

QD drove that stagecoach across an enormous pan BG:

here's the B/G without our hero…

And so you can see the detail, as is my usual routine, I've separated it into left, center and right sections so you can have a better look.

and right!
